BorderHub (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides daily border-status information for the Botswana–South Africa Northwest corridor. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and Botswana’s Data Protection Act. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights.

1. What we collect

Information you give us

• Your email address — only if you choose to subscribe to the morning digest. We ask for your clear, opt-in consent (an un-ticked box) before you subscribe.

Information collected automatically

• Basic technical data — like your IP address, browser type, and the pages you view. Our hosting provider records this in standard server logs to keep the site running and secure.
• We do not ask for or store names, ID numbers, payment details, or location tracking. BorderHub has no user accounts.

2. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

• To send you the morning digest and occasional service updates — based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• To operate, secure and improve the site — based on our legitimate interest in running a reliable service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising profiling.

3. Border information we publish

The border queues, statuses and notices we publish are curated from on-the-ground and industry sources (including logistics community messages) and official notices. Before publishing, we remove personal identifiers — such as names and phone numbers — from that content. Regulatory notices are flagged to be verified against the official SARS / BMA source. If you believe published content identifies you, contact us and we will remove it.

4. Cookies

BorderHub does not use tracking or advertising cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics that profile you. If we add analytics in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first where required.

5. Who we share information with

We use a small number of trusted service providers (“operators” under POPIA) to run the site. They process data only on our instructions:

• Netlify — hosts the website and securely stores subscribe-form submissions (your email).
• Google Fonts — supplies the website fonts; in doing so Google may receive your IP address.

Cross-border note: these providers’ servers may be located outside Botswana and South Africa, so your information may be processed abroad under safeguards comparable to POPIA. We share information with authorities only where the law requires it.

6. How long we keep it

• Your email address — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
• Server logs — kept only for a limited period by our host for security and operational purposes.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA (and Botswana’s Data Protection Act) you have the right to:

• ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• object to, or withdraw your consent for, our use of it;
• unsubscribe from emails at any time (every email includes an unsubscribe link);
• lodge a complaint with the regulator.

8. How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and our hosting is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the regulator as required by law.

9. Children

BorderHub is intended for businesses and adult travellers and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above shows the latest version, and material changes will be highlighted on the site.
